Appearance: Carly is one of those people who ought, by rights, to be pretty, but somehow she never quite got the hang of it. She's got long, sleek dark hair, but it's cut in an unflattering angular style that harshens the soft lines of her face. She has expressive gray-green eyes, but good luck getting a look at them from behind the clunky Coke-bottle glasses she wears. Likewise, she has an enviable figure, but who's going to pay attention to it in the clothes she wears? Her general choice of working gear is a blue and white striped shirt, orange vest, jeans, and canvas tennis shoes, with no makeup or jewelry (in stark contrast to her rival Angela who goes everywhere in a sexy red dress). It's pretty much a guarantee that whatever Carly is wearing, it's unstylish, unflattering, and probably doesn't fit. Even when she's actively trying to dress nicely, she still looks like she just crawled into the best looking thing she could find at the local Goodwill store, which might just be the case. The things she's wearing tend not to cooperate with her: cuffs are too short, hems get trodden on, straps slip off, shoelaces untie. Most of all, she's affected by her lack of self-assurance. When she's still, she holds herself awkwardly; when she moves, it's in bursts of frenetic activity that often leave her planted flat on her face on the floor. With a little more confidence and some competent fashion advice, she could be quite presentable, but as it is, you'd never pick her out in a crowd.

Personality: Life doesn't work for Carly. It's not that she does anything particularly badly, or that she's stupid. It's just that when the lives were handed out, she got the one on bottom of the box that got a little squashed and it's never worked right since. Not that she lets this get her down. Despite the many complications and setbacks in her life, Carly is generally a positive person who rarely lets herself dwell on the past or wallow in misery because of her failures - she's always looking forward to whatever comes next, always convinced that this time it's going to come out right. She is ambitious in that she is willing to go to great lengths to achieve her aims, even resorting to guile and cunning, but never so far that she'd hurt someone in the process. She is a kind and caring person who is willing to make sacrifices to protect someone she cares about. She gives off an impression that she's not particularly bright, mostly because she tends to rush into things instead of thinking them through, and also because she's inclined to stammer when she's nervous or excited (which is often - Carly is nothing if not emotional). She does have her own brand of intelligence, though. Because she's accustomed to being knocked down at every turn, she's good at shrugging off setbacks and pushing forward when everyone around her has given up.

Particulars: Carly's primary gift is that she just - doesn't - give - up! No matter what may befall her, she'll bounce back and keep trying, learning from her mistakes, taking risks and trying creative solutions where other people would declare the issue a lost cause. She is keenly observant and notices details that other people miss. She's also pretty handy with technology. Not that she's any kind of brilliant hacker, but she at least knows not to plug the extension cord into itself or run to the police when she gets an illegal operation error. Oddly enough, she's also fond of telling fortunes, though she isn't really very good at it.
